Small area population estimation: Estimating population size at ward level 2014 in South Africa.

For efficient planning and allocation of scarce resources, planners and policy makers require among others, current population size information at all geographical levels. However, outside the census years, this information is not usually available at lower geographical levels such as municipalities and wards. This study extends a top‐down estimation method to an African country by estimating the mid‐2014 population at ward level in South Africa.
