The census is the traditional source of information on population size. However, censuses are undertaken every five or ten years depending on the country. In between censuses, policy makers and planners need information on population size for the current year and the future.

Population projections are a cost-effective way of providing such information. We provide population projections at national and sub-national levels to aid planning.

The application of population/demographic and statistical modelling to social issues in various sectors is an integral part of our work to inform policy in social issues some of which may be controversial issues.

To build human capacity we undertake training in survey and census data analysis with focus on the population and demographic aspects of the data. We also undertake training in population projections and estimation.

Household and dwelling unit numbers have various uses and include as unit of sampling, unit of analysis in poverty, income, expenditure and wealth studies, basis for assessing future needs for social services such as the provision of water, electricity, sewage and refuse disposal as well as housing. We provide household and dwelling units projections.
